SUMMARY:REVIVE! Lay Rescuer Training
DESCRIPTION:REVIVE! is the Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education (OONE) program in Virginia. \nREVIVE! training is one strategy in the harm reduction toolbelt designed to overcome the negative consequences of opioid use. Harm reduction is a practice that protects both individual and community health by addressing unnecessarily dangerous\, and often deadly\, realities of substance use. \nIn this training\, participants will be taught how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency by administering naloxone\, or Narcan— a nasal spray proven to rapidly reverse opioid overdoses. \nLay Rescuer – A lay rescuer is someone who has received training in offering essential first aid and medical care during emergency situations. These individuals are not medical professionals\, but they have been educated to identify and address medical emergencies. \nThis training covers understanding opioids\, how opioid overdoses happen\, risk factors for opioid overdoses\, and how to respond to an opioid overdose emergency with the administration of Naloxone. \nThis is an in person event \nSign ups are limited to 30 individuals. This class goes over exactly Why it is dangerous\, what the risk profile looks like on common substances\, and what ways we can mitigate risk and navigate consent if you do choose to mix the two. This is a safety\, information\, and risk mitigation oriented class. This class does Not condone or encourage the mixture of intoxication and play but rather evaluates the potential risks and dangers. \nIn this class we will be going over the following –\n★ Why people may mix substances and play\n★ Why is it is generally considered high risk to do so\n★ A variety of substances and medications\, why people do them\, and the\nmajor risks associated with them individually pertaining to overlap with kink and consent\n★ Risk considerations and approaches if you do intend to mix substances and play \nWhat this will not go over –\n★ Nuances of every particular substance\n★ Harm reduction training or overdose response\n★ Safe substance combinations\n★ Demonizing substance users \nThe presenter does provide links to outside resources that people can learn more about on their own for the subjects that the material is not focused on. \nAdditionally\, everyone who participates in the class (either live or download) will receive a link to a hidden webpage with the information as well as a PDF copy of a zine with the same information to keep with them.
